Hi
I was given this silver platter years ago by my grandmother and have never looked at the marks before. But having looked today and then found your site I am curious as to where she would have got it from and it's age etc.
I think it is an Irish mark, initially the marks reminded me of Gaelic writing and having found the Irish year marks page I think my suspicions may be correct, but I couldn't match the marks to a maker etc.
Any info would be gratefully received.
The platter is approx 18" x 10.5"
Many thanks

Hi,
Welcome to the Forum.
I hate to put a downer on your day, but your item is not silver, but silver plated.
The marks are typical of English silver platers. 'EP' Electro Plated - G.F.W.& S (a maker unknown to me) - 'NS' Nickel Silver.
Sorry if I disappoint you.

Hi,
Thanks, at least I know now why I couldn't work it out! It makes more sense as well, it is very heavy, I've never understood how my gran could afford that much silver!
Thanks
Becky
