Need help with danish marks

Post by nauticbear »

Hello, I have Danish cutlery set but most of the pieces have different marks. The pattern on the handle is always the same. Maybe someone has some information about the manufacturer(s)?

Thank you

P=Pleet…Plate as in silverplated.
ATLA is for Cohr production. See here or search threads: http://www.cohrsilver.dk/cohr/

Rules are rules, so no disagreement over that. But for now, if these are all variants related to COHR plet production, then this might be an amazing key grouping given the singular pattern all tied together by the two towers mark. In the 8 samples there are differences in the towers but also similarities. By re-arranging the order based on those towers we might get a progression of factory markings within a limited time frame. (Again, only if they are all Cohr.) One would need to know if each mark was on a like piece such as all spoons or all forks since you would not want to mix different pieces. Whether some of the marks are pseudos or internal controls is something to resolve. It does seem interesting that two P’s in a rectangular frame has the vague likeness to Cohr silver’s two C’s in a rectangle. Also, some if those letters may be the same as names of people who have been associated with Cohr as designers…perhaps just coincidental but maybe more? At any rate, it must be determined firstly whether this pattern was ever produced outside of this firm, either before or after. I defer to the more aquainted.

A bit of searching found a site with pattern names…”Louise” seems to match the image corresponding to your posting. Indeed, a search of Cohr Atla in general confirms this style was produced by them, but it seems to be in rather low quantities as singular samples or small groups. Maybe just older, earlier production leaving less pieces around?

This pattern also comes up as a three tower solid silver product with at least one dating of 1926 assayance. Having the known pattern name yields a greater variety of posted pieces to this set.

Assuming everything is correct, this might help with dating…scroll down and find Cohr began plet production in 1921 but did not apply the ATLA mark until 1926, and that two tower was (failed?) out by 1929: https://www.silvercollection.it/DICTION ... NMARK.HTML

Looks like one of the marks could be the “N.S” mark posted by Fishless which was combined with two towers and an unknown device (which raises its’ own questions): https://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopi ... rks#p63362
