Re: Help with ID on this Russian mirror

Here's a close up of the arms as requested. It is indeed those of Dolgorukov and they were an ancient Princely family. Catherine Dolgorukova was the Mistress of Alexander II. I don't have a photo of the rear of the mirror I'm afraid as it's not with me at the moment after I took these photos the oth...

Maker HL on this imported enamel frame

Hi, I've seen these makers initials of HL on a few things I have but I've yet to find out the maker. I believe he was German as it was detailed on a description of a lot that was bought at auction (but the description has been long since lost) so any help identifying would be greatly appreciated. Th...

Identity of this Czech maker please

Hello all, I was hoping someone might be able to tell me the maker of this Czech silver mounted decanter as I'm not having any luck. The initials look like HB but i could be wrong about that. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance. https://i.imgur.com/3rxiHbk.jpg https://i...

Re: Cigar box imported by P H Vogel

Hi AG2012

You're right, they do look Austrian and Vogel did import from there, especially from George Adam Scheid. I'll have to get better images of the marks but these marks are as small as the pesky French ones!!

Cigar box imported by P H Vogel

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help with the maker and maybe even the artist for this silver and enamel box that was imported by PH Vogel. The marks are extremely small and even with the magnifier on iPone they'r really difficult to get a good shot of. I'll certainly try again and I'm hoping these w...

Re: Help identifying maker

oh, and regarding arrow two in your picture, this is one of the pins that holds the clock face in place to the body. The silversmith, when he removed the clock face to re gild the body, actually glued them back in place rather than soldering them as they previously had been done.

Re: Help identifying maker

The back of the marks is completely wrong; what are those strange counter marks, irregular impressions, pitting - arrow 1? They are really not supposed to be here. Even if the clock was repaired and removed from the frame, there are issues when it was put back (there was no need for excessive filin...

Re: Help identifying maker

again, happy to stand corrected about this and always happy to learn. "guilloche" is just the french word for "engine turning". I've personally not seen "guilloche enamel" or "engine turned enamel" pieces made in the UK of the age you mentioned. Maybe it's jus...

Re: Help identifying maker

Another feature of this piece got me thinking and that's the guilloche enamel and the engine turning to the front. These areas have both been done using a variation of the rose engine turning machine and not by hand. Faberge was indeed using an engine turning machine at this time, circa 1896, as is ...

Re: Help identifying maker

Oops, another quick observation if I may. So a few posts above this one, Juke was kind enough to post an image of another set of marks. Qrt.s then remarked that the hallmarks were usually made in the mint office in St Petersburgh and then sent around. My question, which will show my lack of knowledg...

Hi all, many thanks for your replies which have been fascinating. I'd like to give you a bit more info about this piece and I've also uploaded some more photos for you which you can view here: https://imgur.com/a/KwIUfVi So as you will see, it has an original Percy Edwards bespoke leather case. I've...

Re: Help identifying French maker on this cigar lighter

Edit: I know of someone who has one of these and it's by Cartier. The images above I now believe are upside down.

I've found this mark online for jewellery but it's in an oval, though it looks for all intents and purposes the same:

Help identifying French maker on this cigar lighter

Hi all, I've gone through all the French makers marks but I can't find this particular maker, so any help would be greatly appreciated. The closest I can see is Odiot, but it's not quite right. Re: Help identifying maker

Hi. I'm sorry to interrupt your discussion. But, are the fake hallmarks on this photo frame getting in the way of your search for a master maker? I think it should get in the way. can you tell me what leads you to believe they are fake marks? there's marks to the front of the clock and the back leg...
