18t Century Saltcellar, German?

Post by Vantlicht »

This silver saltcellar looks German if I may believe Google lens. Could somebody confirm this? And is there somebody who could determine this cellar based on the marks? Thanks in advance!

Hi Theoderich,

Thanks for the information. The crowned S town mark of Schmalkalden, ABH for Adam Balthasar Herdt. And what would be the letter N or Z with "arrow", is it the mark of assayer or year letter?

I bet it is 12 for the fineness.
In German-speaking countries, Poland, and Hungary, the fineness was expressed in lot. mostly 12 or 13.
Best regards!
