Help identifying candlestick marks

Post by ChristophUSA »

I'm assuming the Walking Lion is a mark for British silver.
The other symbols are a mystery to me.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You are right - it's English: Sheffield 1817 but the maker's mark has been deliberately defaced for some reason. However I think it could be the mark of Thomas & John Settle (note the suggestion of a final "S" and the position of the pellet):

Phil,

You are an excellent sleuth!

I found same markings Googling.

Thanks again!
