Weighted A. S. Co. candle sticks

Post by BClark925 »

Hello,
We're striking out identifying the following mark. I assume it's American but not really sure.
Any info, including age range would be appreciated.
Thanks

Possibly a later (post-1935) mark for the American Silver Company noted here: https://www.925-1000.com/americansilver_A.html

International Silver took over the work formerly controlled by Bristol Brass and, according to their 1947 history, continued to produce some of the lines of that organization. AS Co or A.S. Co. had been a common mark for them from the start. The device surrounding the initials may have been borrowed from the old Meriden Britannia shield which had evolved to a more rounded shape over time (usually containing a scales device). Of course, all this is only conjecture at this point as no hard evidence is on hand to support the idea. International was shifting around production facilities in the 1930’s, converting some to other uses and would have logically turned ASCo work over to one or more of the surviving plant facilities. Re-using devices might have been a simple remedy to controlling costs in the depression years or the war era inflationary spiral.

Thanks for the reply. American Silver was all we could come up with but that shield did throw us off.
