Lunchtime Talk: The Last of the Little Mesters?

Wednesday 12th July 2023

Has traditional craftsmanship in Sheffield's industry died out? Find out more about the rise, decline and survival of traditional trades.

If you thought that the traditional skills and processes in the cutlery and silverware industry had died out, you may be surprised – there's far more going on than you might imagine.

Join us for a comprehensively illustrated talk with author and historian Peter Machan MA. Peter will share what he discovered from his extensive research recording the craftsmen and women who kept the skills and knowledge of Sheffield's traditional trades alive during the last forty years – and those who maintain them now; today's 'Little Mesters'.

The talk also marks the launch of Peter’s recently published book on the subject, The Little Mesters; The Rise, Decline and Survival of Sheffield's Traditional Trades.

Time: 13:00 - 13:45 BST

Admission: Free
