Ashtray, French? Marks?

Post by Vantlicht »

This ashtray is from oceanic and cares some hallmarks which are unclear to me. There is a GA and 1c which I never saw before. Maybe it looks familiar to somebody?

Hello,
It's not an ashtray, it's a tastevin, used today to taste wine and appreciate the colour of the wine due to the shallow depth of the cup.
In the past, when crockery and cutlery was not supplied when you were eating out, either at friends or restaurants, French men would keep a tastevin with them and the flat shape lent itself to the cup being kept in a pocket.
Your example is a modern reproduction, not French either.
