Is this a modern piece with spurious marks?

Post by chelsea98 »

It's a lovely thing and does show some age, though that can be done, I know. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

The kokoshnik mark doesn't look right if you look at;

Yes, I believe it to be spurious marks.

Peter is probably right but there are two versions of the left looking kokoshnik with big figures. This type of kokshnik was used 1899-1908. Anyway, is it possible to "see" what Cyrillic letters are behind the kokshnik's neck. That could help to identify the assayer and town. That again could help to try to identify the maker or deem the object to be a fake. As for now a rather difficult case.

Hi!

The assayer seems to be Jacov Lyapunov in St.Petersburg. The silversmith would thereby possibly be Vasily Alexandrovich Alexandrov.

I would vote it is authentic. The photo frame shows many signs of age and wear. The mark is only a bad punch but an authentic one.

Hi Juke, I can agree with your explanation, you are probably right. An authentic but badly stamped kokoshnik hallmark.
