Please Help With Russian Maker's Mark
We're having some trouble finding references for this particular town and maker's mark. The object is a Torah crown of very high detail (Sorry, photos aren't available at this time). The assayer looks to be Viktor Vasilyevich Savinsky (.875 Silver Assay, 1890 - Moscow). The maker's mark looks like Cyrillic "ГЛ" (GL) or maybe "TЛ" (TL). I know "ГЛ" has been loosely associated with both Karl Gustav Lundell and Gustav Klingert. If anyone has any input, it would be much appreciated.

I believe you have some trouble with the marks. They are faked as probably the whole object. There is no such hallmark at that time. Please read this:

Re: Please Help With Russian Maker's Mark
Thank you for the link. Is there something specific about these hallmarks that don't correspond with the assayer's 1890 mark? I understand Lundell died in 1856, so is it possible someone else used the same "ГЛ" mark? Fabergeresearch.com notes, "The mark ГЛ is of an unknown workmaster."Qrt.S wrote:I believe you have some trouble with the marks. They are faked as probably the whole object. Be my guest. However, we don't discuss fakes on these sites for the simple reason that sites are accessible for fakers too and a source of valuable information. Faked marks, especially Russian marks, become better and better and it is not advisable to support that tendency.
The most common errors/faults fakers make is not to pay attention to how hallmarks look like during a certain period. In your case it is clearly seen. I gave you the link but you probably didn't notice this sub-link; http://www.925-1000.com/Frussia_assay_variations.html
Please read it carefully and compare its information and marks with the marks on your object. Pay special attention to the mentioned year 1882 and compare it with the year in your mark. In addition, it is very common that this assayer mark "BC" is seen on fakes. Also pay attention to the notches on the fineness mark (84) not to mention Moscow's town mark St George slaughtering the dragon. See for your self: http://www.925-1000.com/Frussia_city_01.html
Moreover, the swede Gustav Lundell never graduated as a master. It is a an error in some books claiming that he marked ГЛ. He didn't because he was not a master and therefore he didn't have the right to use any punch. The mentioned initials belongs to master not known by name. Gustav Klingert has nothing to do with this. His punch looks totally different.
