Taxco born, Salvador Teran worked with his cousins, Los Castillo for many years before settling in Mexico City and opening his own workshop there in 1952. His jewelry is both innovative and inventive, pierced forms with shadowboxed backgrounds giving a graphic quality to his slightly surrealist pieces. He is also well known for his mosaic pieces; trays, wall hangings, coffee sets and boxes, usually brass with brightly colored glass tesserae inlay in modernist designs.
