Odd overstamping

This spoon came to me with some family items. In researching who it may have belonged to I first tried identifying the origin. This led to two questions:

1. It appears to have been made by John Graham of Edinburgh who was known to work from 1805-1809 however the shields for the thistle and year letter look more likt those of 1835.

2. The maker's mark has been struck over the city mark, something I would have assumed to be improper.

The spoon tests to just better than 925/1000. Can anyone shed light on these to issues?

Hi,

The date letter is for 1805, so it fits nicely with your maker.

With Scottish teaspoons of this period it is usual for there only only to be: date, duty, thistle and maker marks. Here the maker's mark has not overstamped the city mark, just another maker.
