salt shaker

Postby Varouge » Thu Aug 09, 2007 2:04 pm

Hello All,
One of my friends gave me two of these salt shakers, he doesn’t remember how he came to own them, I think they are silver but I am not sure, they have a stamp of sterling on the bottom with a numbers B255 there is a word sterling on the other side and if I am identifying it correctly there is a hallmark of some kind X-X-Y. The size of the saltshaker is approximately 3 inches long.
Can anyone help me with these salt shakers?
I thank you very much.
Jon

Thanks, Tom

Much better, thanks. Hard to read as it is an incomplete stamping, but I believe it is the mark the Roger Williams Silver Co. see->
American Marks W

Regards, Tom

ps. The style of the shaker looks somewhat later than 1913, when Gorham acquired RW, I think Gorham may have continued to use the mark.
