Hallmark Identification help

Post by geridan »

I'm also new to this forum. And I have acquired two pieces of Native American(?) sterling that I can't find what the marks stand for. The belt buckle has only what looks like a footprint and the bolo has what appears to be a capital M written in script with tails on each of the straight lines. I've tried doing my homework on Google and searched the Mexican silver book to no avail. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! Geri

A lot of Native American and Mexican silversmiths used a footprint mark (human, bear, etc.).
Even with a picture I'd just be guessing.

The M mark you describe sounds similar to one used by the Navajo silversmith Mary Lincoln. Don't know when she worked.
