Stephens College Class Ring sterling mark

Post by graham1 »

Am searching for the maker of this class ring, which I'm guessing dates to the late 1800s or very early 1900s. The raised emblem sits on a scalloped base and contains the words "STEPHENS COLLEGE - COLUMBIA, MO" encircling a ribbon featuring the words "DEO ET VERATATI". I've wondered if this might have been produced by a company in the area.

After many tries, I'm ready to admit that I lack the photographic skills necessary to shoot the mark successfully, so have rebuilt it in Photoshop; it's an accurate depiction. (The ring itself was shot in a black ring box.)

I've contacted the school's archivist, who knew nothing about the ring and, oddly, evidenced no interest in it.

Any info about the maker of this ring, or a ballpark date, will be gratefully received. -Pati

(Sorry about that - here's the composite picture)

That mark looks similar to one used by the J.D. Schlang Company, New York City.
Don't know when they were founded.
