Woods & Mosley Coin

Postby recyclebabe » Mon Jul 23, 2007 12:49 am

Hello - I have 6 teaspoons which are stamped on the back Woods & Mosley. They are also stamped COIN with an unreadable hallmark next to it..(If I had to make a guess I would say a squirrel with an acorn..but I'm probably wrong) Can anyone help with Woods & Mosley? It doesn't come up on any of my searches..Thanks in advance..]

The mark for Woods & Mosley is most likely a retailer's mark. I found at least two other examples of silver made by other manufacturers with the retailer's mark of Woods & Mosley; one also was marked Springfield.

Take a look at the Whiting mark on this page-does it look like the "squirrel holding acorn" mark on your piece? I was able to find a Whiting spoon online with the Woods & Mosley retail mark.

Woods (George H) & Hosley (Charles D) were in the jewelry and watches business in Springfield, Massachusets from 1872 until at least 1898 and probably beyond that year.
