Help Identify marks

Postby cltweety » Tue Jun 26, 2007 9:32 am

I have 4 pieces with marks that I cannot identfy the maker, etc.:
1. Y & T with an eagle and an asterick-type mark
2.Y. S. & Co.
3.S W and a mark that looks like the achilles heel symbol
4. a lion mark, a nautical(anchor) mark and one I can't identify with sterling written after it

[Hi, in future please only post one item per thread, thanks, Waylander - moderator]

Without pictures, I can only offer a couple of guesses.

Number 3, maybe Simon Wedge.

Number 4 sounds like a Gorham mark. Check here:

The Y&T mark is shown in McGrew's book on American coin silver as an unidentified maker of unknown origin. Not much help other than it's probably a coin silver piece.

Below is a picture of the "Y & T" mark from a 7" ladle in my collection. An internet search will yield other items from this maker, and it may yet be possible to shed new light on this maker. I would certainly like to know more.

Best wishes
Mikael
