Need Help Identifying Marks on Sterling Pendant

Postby mhab » Sat Jun 16, 2007 8:11 pm

I have this very heavy Sterling Pendant. I think it might be Victorian. The marks on the bottom of the Pendant are HW and 999. I would appreciate anyone identifying the artist and era if possible.

That mark was used by the famous Henryk Winograd.
Born in Russia. Continued his silversmith training in Eastern Europe (Poland). Came to the United States in 1973.

Hi,
Winograd is well known for Judaic themed pieces, almost everything I've ever seen by him was made by the electroforming process. Basically, that is plaster or rosin with a foil coating of silver over it - more or less - thick silverplating.

Winograd's repousse technique - as well as his enamel work and the areas upon which he drew inspiration - is well covered in this article:

http://www.jewishpress.com/page.do/14403/Original_Elevations:_Henryk_Winograd&%2339%3Bs_Judaica.html

Among his many works he also made limited-edition facsimiles of works by Faberge silversmith Julius Rappoport.
