Silver box - NOW WITH PHOTOS

Postby Peg » Tue Aug 09, 2005 8:10 am

I have a small hinged silver box - about 45x30x15mm. It is decorated with cherubs in an Italianate surrounding, with garlands round the sides.
It has several marks - including a capital 'A' topped with a crown, and a lion on it's hind legs - also topped with a crown. There is a shield with 3 blobs that could be sheaves of wheat - but it doesn't look quite like the Chester marks.
I've had it researched by 'experts' at a local auction house, but the best they can come up with is 'possibly Dutch'. This may be true - it was my mothers, and she was part Dutch (by way of New York).

Any clues gratefully received!

Sounds like they might be fantasy or pseudo marks from Hanau, Germany or the Netherlands. Try to post pictures of the piece and the marks.
