Old? Teapot

I have a teapot of unknown origin. It is marked with a "7" on the bottom and under the hinged lid. There is also an "R" that looks a lot like the 1772 London R and a very very faint British sterling Lion to the right of the R

Can anyone tell me if it is English and what the date might be or maker?







It has been in my family for a long time but we know nothing about it. Any help? Thank you!

Actually, your post is fine right here. I believe these are Canadian marks, not British hallmarks.
That's one of the many marks used by Roden Brothers Ltd., Toronto, Canada. Founded in 1891. Bought by Birks in the late 1950's.

that would make perfect sense because I'm in Canada... near toronto and we thought they were early 1900's silver (there's a creamer and sugar bowl with the teapot).

Any chance of narrowing down the date? or is the "R" the makers mark only?

The "R' is just their initial that's always used in their mark.
Can't help you with a date.
