Meaning of A1, A2 and S&L on Mappin & Webb silverpla

I inherited some Mappin & Webb kings pattern silverplate flatware. Most pieces are also stamped S&L and A1.
A few are marked S&L and A2. Does anyone know the meaning of S&L, A1 and A2 ?





Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The A1 and A2 marks refer to the quality or thickness of the silverplate.
Mappin & Webb were also a retailer later in the 20th century.
Not sure about this, but maybe the S&L stands for Sheffield & London.
