Maker Mark Needed

Postby tptaylor » Tue Mar 13, 2007 6:52 pm

Hello, I have a sterling spoon which looks like a Gorham Cottage pattern..
However, I cannot make out the maker mark to the right, and yet, the spoon also has Bailey Banks and Biddle. Did BBB make this spoon or did Gorham sell to them and BBB sold under their own name?
Thanks for any insight!

This is Gorham Cottage pattern. Although the photo of the mark is somewhat blurry, it looks to be Gorham's mark from the latter half of the 19th century, which is consistent with the date of the Cottage pattern. See this site's listing of Gorham marks to compare.

Bailey Banks & Biddle would have been the retailer, and Gorham would have sold it to them, a fairly common practice.
