Sterling Maker Mark & Item Needed

Postby tptaylor » Thu Mar 08, 2007 1:27 pm

Hello,
I am a new user so thank you in advance for any help you can give me. I need help with this maker mark. It looks to me like three esses with an arrow through them. It is also marked: Sterling. I am also lost as to what this item is. Maybe a piece of dresserware?
Thanks!Image

Hi, I can't help with the maker, but your item is a pair of glove strechers, they were for use on the very tight kid gloves that were popular in Victorian and Edwardian times,

That mark looks very similar to one used by the Stone Sterling Silver Company, New York City.
Not in business long, from roughly 1896 to 1904.
