It looks to me like a silver tobacco or cigar box. Indeed Schoonhoven, assay office or Minerva head with the regional assay office letter M for Schoonhoven. Year letter Gothic I for 1893.

Inscription on the lid:
Door mijn Swieren en Plycieren moest ik Vaaren door den Baaren / My wanderings and pleasures compelled me to sail across the waves
naar Batavia sonder schroomen / to Batavia without hesitation
En Ben over China weer Tuys gecoomen / And I returned home again via China.

He registered his maker's mark on May 1, 1838, and shortly thereafter returned it on December 20, 1838. Maker's mark registered C above 58 in square
He then worked as a silversmith's servant for the silversmith C. Monteban until April 1869.
He resumed his work as a master with maker's mark on May 1, 1869, until his death on February 8, 1899. He used maker's mark H.C 58 in rectangle from 1869-1874 and HC above 58 in square 1874-1899.
Works: silver tobacco boxes, snuff boxes, purse clasps, and book locks.
His
Widow continued the business until her death on May 10, 1890.Her mark used
W.C above 58 in a square.
