Help with Whiting date mark, please

Postby SusanWhite » Wed Feb 21, 2007 6:30 pm

Hi, Everyone!

We have a small bowl which is made by Whiting ... but I've looked at the Whiting date marks and this one doesn't match any of them. We could use some help with this...

Thanks!
Susan

Hi Susan,
I believe it is 1916. I created the site graphic based on a hand drawn chart in Rainwater's encyclopedia. Could be that what was submitted to Rainwater were not entirely accurate renditions. I have not handled enough Whiting from this period to know how refined the marks actually are. Think it would be far better to have a chart created from photos, so if anyone has any please post them here.

Regards, Tom

Additional Whiting Date Stamps

Postby SusanWhite » Thu Apr 12, 2007 4:51 pm

Hello!

I hope this doesn't get lost ... Tom asked for more photos of Whiting date stamps and I have at least one more to add. We also have a Whiting sardine fork with a number above (10) and below (5) the maker's mark and I'm wondering what these numbers are supposed to mean. Are they a variation on the date stamps?

Mainly, I'm posting to include the Whiting date stamp for 1909 (I think), and I'm including shots of the items because that's what we're supposed to do ... but if anyone knows anything about these numbers, I would appreciate it!

Sincerely,
Susan
