Turkish silver mirror

Post by AfricanHeart »

Hello how are you.

I have what appears to be a Turkish silver hand-held mirror
(Marked 900)

I couldn't find out exactly if this is entirely 900 silver or only silver-plated
(The descriptions on auction sites differ).

Please advise thanks.

Turkey, after 1943, compulsory hallmarking was discontinued, the silver standards of 800 and 900 are continued. Currently, there is no formal hallmarking in Turkey. Precious metals are marked at the discretion of the maker. Most complete marks include a maker, fineness and country of origin. These complete marks are generally found on items made for export. I am not sure if NECO 900 is Turkish, probably not.

Peter.
