Nothing very old. A pair of 900 candles from Cairo around 1992 (what I call the little reed boat with two heads above). What’s interesting is that the assay mark has been applied a total of four times, including inside the base of the stick cup. Even the Russians and French don’t do that much. Is this something unusual in Egypt? Was there a problem with fakery, or was it just a quality seller making sure the were no concerns? An identical set found in an old listing seems to have been marked this much too, so it’s not just a one off occurence.
And the like set (old auction/ghost images) with a 2009 sourced date chart:
I haven't dealt with much Egyptian silver; however, the gold jewellery that has been hallmarked in Egypt has assay marks struck in most parts possible.
