Elkington - what is the date?

Can anyone help me determine what the date mark is on my Elkington piece?

Note that the marks appear to be somewhat worn.

I am struggling to make a letter or number out of that.

Letter O in a diamond shape would be 1853.

Possibly, but I'm skeptical it's an "O".

I also messaged the curator of this website who said they think it's from the 1840's but not sure of the year.
