help with mark on Chester inkwell

Post by dmay »

I need help identifying the maker of this Chester inkwell from 1906-my source books don't cover 20th century makers. Also, any recommendations for a good source book for Chester makers?

William Neale & Son, Birmingham, England.
They had different marks entered in Chester and Birmingham.

Hello Deirdre,

You asked about books for info, the best for Chester is
The Compendium of Chester Gold & Silver Marks 1570 -1962
by Ridgeway & Priestley, published by the Antique Collectors' Club.
This gives approximately 10,000 marks with the bonus that it also includes 2000 with Birmingham addresses.
Not cheap (Reccomended retail price £65), but good value, available on eBay, amazon and others, do a Googol search.
