Server Set (Spoon & Fork). Hallmark Puzzle

Postby arlowood » Thu Feb 08, 2007 11:09 am

Hi there
I have inherited what appears to be a solid siver spoon & fork server set. Both items are about 9" in length and are engraved with floral motifs. I have searched many hallmark references but cannot identify the marks. The maker's mark is A&D with a date letter as a gothic "s" followed by an hourglass in a vertical ovel cartouche. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Arlowood, I'm afraid to say that they look very much like platers marks to me,

I believe that's a silverplate mark used by Allen & Darwin, Sheffield, England.

Hi Pat

That looks to be spot on with the marks I see. Many thanks for your help and support. So now I know it is plate and not solid silver.

Walter
