Hello all - I have two identical heirloom salt cellars that I'm in need of help with. I can discern several of the marks: Sterling, made in London by Sampson Mordan (maker is educated guess; the letter forms seem different, though). It appears the date mark puts it at 1908, although the shield looks slightly different.

Can anybody tell me what the profile mark might represent? If this item was produced in 1908, this mark shouldn't be a duty stamp.

Also, are the serif letters and ornament significant of something, or just simply an engraving?

I appreciate everyone's help with this.

It is much older; leopard`s head crowned for London, date letter n is for 1788.

Engraved initials belong to original or later owner; those are not possible to identify ubless there is direct provenance in the family.
