Cutlery case

Postby amena » Mon Apr 04, 2022 8:14 am

I posted this question on German silver, hoping I am not mistaken.
This case contains three cutlery, which appear to be from the early 19th century.

Only the spoon has marks, which look German to me.
There is a 12 at the top between two crossed swords (?) that vaguely resembles a hallmark that the Tardy attributes to Leipzig, there is an silversmith's mark that looks like CMK and then another small mark that could be a pipe.
If someone can help me to identify the period or the city it would do me a very welcome thing.
Thanks for attention.

Hi,
It is Dresden, possibly 1826.

Thanks, Peter
Not a pipe, therefore, but a dateletter. (What a shame)
But is it a D or an A?

And if it were an A would it be that of 1775 or 1800 or 1830 or 1855?

Hi Amena, it is not an A, believe it to be a D for 1833 but let us wait for Theoderich to confirm.

Best,

Peter

Hi Amena,

Could you be so kind to show us some images of all the marks as they appear on the cutlery. An image of the marks on the spoon (unedited) so we can see the layout. For orientation of the year letter which is often misaligned. Theoderich has never seen this type of Dresden year letter before. In any case, the unknown year letter was used in the period around 1820 - 1841.

Peter.

Thanks Peter for your concern, here is what the marks on the tip of the spoon look like.

OK ... now I think I have it.
This is not an A or D, it is the lower part of S = 1822

Thanks Theo.
It seemed impossible to me that there was a German mark that you had never seen before.
