First of all NOT Russian but Soviet made. The difference/quality between Russian made and Soviet made is more than enormous. Anyway it is made in: Ювелирно Часовая Мастерская in Ташкент (Jewelry Watch Workshop in Tashkent (Capital in Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic) 1958. It is a СТОПКА (Stopka is a small traditional Russian vodka cup).

They are Soviet silver marks. Unfortunately very unclear. Anyway, it looks like Moscow 1927-1954. The rhomboid framed maker's mark is unfortunately unknown to me. Let's hope AG2012 will come up with an answer regarding the maker..

"ХГ"
1. If it is the mark of the master. In Russia, names that begin with the letter "Х" are rare. It is possible that the master was a Jew. During these years, two suitable masters worked in Moscow and the names of both were Нaim (Хаим). There is not enough information that this is their brand.
2. If it is the brand of a factory or artel. During these years, changes in the names of workshops, their closure or consolidation were common and frequent. There are candidates, but there is not enough information at the moment, unfortunately.
The owner of the brand "HG" is temporarily unknown.

Hmmmm, not so rare but not so common either I would say, at least 20-30 are known most of them in St. Petersburg. The most famous is Хлебников. Moreover, X as an Anfang letter can be found in family names translated to Russian from other languages.

We are talking about the first letter in the brand "ХГ". This is the name of the master almost always with rare exceptions. In Russian: Khariton, Kharlam (Харлам, Харитон...). I have not yet met silversmiths with such names.
