Hi Trev,
can you provide us with a bit more info; type of piece, type of marks, coin, sterling? etc..
Are you sure it's American?

Regards, Tom

Hi Tom, It is a desert spoon, just over 7 inches long in a fiddle hourglass pattern. I have a table spoon by Josiah Gooding of identical proportions, it has no marks except that of the maker, which is stamped without outline. I asumed it was American due similarities with the Gooding spoon and the English sounding names, it definately has the feel of an American spoon, although theres always the possibility of a later made piece.
I promise to make an effort to get a camera to make it easier for all concerned, regards Trev.

Does it look like a retailer's mark or a maker's mark?

Hi Waylander, I presumed makers but there is a possibility that it could be a retailers mark, I had not thought about that, if no one can come up with a maker then that must be the likely answer, regards Trev.

Henry Harrington and George R Bullen are listed as dealers in jewelry and watches in Worcester, Massachusetts Directories from 1867 through 1874.

Hi Silverly,

Many thanks for the information, I had quite forgotten about this question from nearly three years ago. It just goes to show that you should never give up hope on receiving an answer.

I'm sure I still have that old spoon somewhere, I'll dig it out and post a photo.

Thanks again, your efforts researching this old mystery are much appreciated.

Regards Trev.
