Enamel cigarette case

Postby meyrink » Sun Oct 10, 2021 7:20 am

Hello.

Could you please help me with these marks? Moon and star looks like Georg Adam Scheid, but I did not find this square form.

Thank you

Yugoslavia confirmed 1922-1933, fineness .900. Unfortunately I have no information regarding the maker's mark IB. Maybe someone else have?

My pleasure, but mind my asking; where is the enamel you mention in the headline?

There is a small number top right in the mark (above Roman I).
It indicates assay office. Can you identify it undder higher magnification and tell us ?

Assay office 3 was Laibach (Ljubljana in Slovenia).
I think the silvermith is Ivan Beuc who moved from Vienna in 1924.
While working in Austria his first name was Johann.
After the dissolution of Austria-Hungary Slovenia became part of Yugoslavia, and Beuc is typical Slovenian name.
He probably moved with the entire inventory of his Vienna workshop. The cigarette case really looks like Vienna Art Deco.

Wow, such detail information I did not expected. The cigarette case really looks like a Vienesse piece. Do you have any clue about the next Hagia Sofia case? Thank you
