4 3/8" spoon I cannot identify. Latzko (smith/retailer?)

Postby QSCook7081 » Sat Sep 11, 2021 1:36 pm

I am not finding any definitive info on this 4 3/8" spoon that I think is Austrian? Hungarian? The smith/retailer name says Latzko.

Thoughts?

Thank you for your help.

There's a few references to Latzko in old threads using the search function box. Here is mentioned Latzko Brothers acting as a retailer with Trev's link near the end to old Austrian marks: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=50755&p=156505&hilit=latzko&sid=c073e09bed26ab671b69e2882ca58a20#p156505

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I did see the previous Latzko comment, but I still cannot find anything that helps me to identify my little spoon.

The Dianakopf (for .800 minimum fineness here) is setting the date range. These are very blurred images of the marks, so...based upon what you have given, you need to determine if there is a city code in the Dianakopf (Mark 3 with 5 lobes) and start from that location using this chart: https://www.925-1000.com/Faustria_02.html

If Latzko is only the retailer, then Mark 2 should relate to the maker/source/origin in some way. There's still no immediate guarantee that a smith can be identified, but this is a start. Short of a better view of the Dianakopf (preferably magnified with a loupe at 10x or more), you'll need to start the examination on your end and relay what you find. Good luck.
