Maker's Marks Sheffield c. 1905: "J.A.S" and &

Hello. I just received a two-piece set as a wedding present and would appreciate any information you might have.

It appears to be a pair of serving pieces: a five-tined fork and a curved knife. I cannot tell if it's for cake, meat, or something else. The knife is about eleven inches in length.

The marks appear to denote sterling silver made in Sheffield in 1905 (at least the date letter looks like an "n" to me). The maker's mark on the fork (below) is "R&O."



The maker's mark on the knife (below) is "J.A.S" (I think).



Also, each item has stamped on it:

"H. Buckler
Hove"

and "Made in England."

I'm guessing Buckler was the owner of a shop that sold the item, but I could be way off.

Any idea on what I've got and who made it?

The maker of your fork is Robinson & Oates who were at 47, Eyre Street, Sheffield and the maker of the knife is J. A. Scholes who were at 25½, Monmouth Street, Sheffield

Hi,
Just to clarify - only the ferrules, the little rings between handle and the business ends are sterling. The fork and knife blade are silverplate.
