Unknown continental silver marks - fleurs de lys & acorn

Postby echo801 » Tue Nov 21, 2006 4:59 pm

Hello
Recently acquired a lovely silver box which bears the following marks.

Image

Now they maybe upside down (just to make things easy).

I feel that they are probably two seperate sets of marks... but what do I know, that's why I'm hoping someone here can help.

Marks are: H.F. in diamond lozenge, 3 leafed emblem in oval lozenge; .925 and a k or h.
The other marks - the ones I'm really interested in -

possibly a makers mark I. rubbed ; an acorn type mark; an upside down fleurs de lys type mark and three stars?! in a shield.

Any ideas or thoughts very much appreciated.

Many thanks

echo

Hi :) I've heard the acorn referred to as a pomegranate as well as a "pineapple erect..." it's the city mark for Augsburg, Germany, pre-1886. The "I" is likely a date letter, I'm not familiar enough with German marks to give you an exact date though. Hope that helped some, & good luck :)

Hello, the lower row looks like pseudo marks from Hanau, possibly Schleissner and possibly of recent make. The Augsburg "pyr" is different from the one used here. The upper row to me (but I don't know much about this) looks like recent English import marks. Best wishes, Bahner

The upper set of marks are for Chester.
The HF in a lozenge, unfortunately is unknown but was active from 1910 -12. Next mark is the Chester import mark, an acorn, the final one is the date letter, I cannot make out properly.
