18th century or 19th?

hi, can anyone tell me if this is a a 1789 london date mark or 1809 as are very similar, the makers name thomas carpenter with the number 5 above it was registered 1788, thankyou

1789 as Carpenter registered and used several other marks before 1809. Just to confirm this your watch case has a duty mark; duty on watch cases was abolished in 1798.
