Just a question about a line through the makers mark on a Sweet Pea gumbo spoon. It shows Holmes & Edwards as the maker, but it has a line through it. Hagan shows Sweet Pea makers as Associated Silver, 1890 Jennings Bros, and Paragon.
Any ideas regarding the strike through? Does it have something to do with a patent expiring (just a guess)?
I neglected to mention in my original post that I have seen this type of thing before (maker's name struck through) a couple of times, but I can't remember what pieces or makers.
