Serving spoon european looking, but from where?

Postby dinio » Thu Nov 09, 2006 6:56 pm

Hi,
I have a serving spoon that I believe to be silver, but not completely sure. It looks beginning of XIX century and has 3 marks that I interpret as the town mark, the maker's mark and the letter date. But I am unable to find a correct fit in my international references. Due to the date letter, candidate countries could be Denmark, Sweden, Holland, or other ?
The two towers are rather rare: I found one tower or three towers as a city mark, but no double towers.

Could someone help in this identification ?

Here are the pictures:

Thanks for every contribution.

Hello, the two towers were used on Danish plate, the "P" stands for "plet". As to the "S" - maybe the maker ? Probably made during the 20ieth century. Best wishes, Bahner

In 1893 the Danish Hallmarking Act introduced a silver standard of .826 indicated by a three tower mark. About the same time they started using a two tower mark to indicate silverplate. I believe that is what your top mark is. They used the two and three tower marks until 1961.
Sorry, can't help you with the maker's mark.

Regards,
Pat.

Thanks Bahner and Pat !
I thought that this spoon could be silverplate but I was not sure. With your information, I am now aware of the metal.

Thanks again.
Regards.
