All I can say at this point is that your service was made in Paris of 950 standard silver between 1838-1972. To find the maker, the first initial is key. I’ve checked my sources for F.B. and E.B. with no luck. Perhaps one of the marks on this set would be less distorted, allowing you to see it clearly?

Here are some references for finding Paris makers:

The 925-1000 website has a selection of French marks under the World Marks pull-down menu. Always a good idea to start there.

Otherwise the two standard texts for Paris makers’ marks are, for pre-Revolutionary marks:

Nocq, Henri. Le poinçon de Paris, v. 1-5. Paris, Floury, 1926.

For post-Revolutionary marks:

Arminjon, Catherine et al. Dictionnaire des poinçons de fabricants d’ouvrages d’or er d’argent de Paris et de la Seine. v. I, 1798-1838, v. II, 1838-1875. Paris, Imprimerie nationale, 1991 and 1994.

These texts sadly all are out of print, although available occasionally on the secondary market for €€€€.

For Paris makers registered after 1878, there is a French Ministry of Culture website:

I believe it is the mark of Félix Burette, 58 rue Charlot, registered 7 Jan 1922: F.B., symbol "une pensée", i.e. a pansy (flower)

The mark is described, but not illustrated, on French Ministry of Culture site JAyT mentions, #PG00480
