Ice Tube Pitcher, Claret jug- unknown maker

Postby themichaelfrank » Fri Jan 17, 2020 3:05 pm

Hello forum,
First time poster, a vintage collector though haven’t really collected silver or silverplate items until recently.

Having done the google & online research on this pitcher though haven’t found a match for the marks. I don’t know it’s country of origin, age or maker. I’ve found similar styles referred to as ‘Ice Tube Pitcher’ ‘Claret Jug’ ‘Juice jug’ ‘Chill It Pitcher’. But haven’t come across any this shape, etched glass pattern, and makers marks.

The marks pictured are stamped on top of the cap for the ice tube. Thanks!

Hello and welcome, believe we might need a better picture of the mark on the left hand side, but this could be one of the marks used by German maker Quist on its plated items. As to the mark in the middle - sorry, no idea. For an explanation of the number 5 see here

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

I agree with Bahner, see below for another example of the marks of F.W. Quist of Esslingen:

whoa, you guys are fast. The whole time I was thinking that first stamped mark was maybe an anchor or something hooked or barbed. I played around with my phone's settings and got a cleaner pic. Definitely Quist, just blown out on this stamp, would have never gotten that from it. Prost!
