Hello, judging by the colour of the metal and the mark I suspect pewter. Have seen marks like these on decorative pewter items not for use, just for show. The 95 is for 95 % tin, the rest may be antimon or lead, so for medical reasons it may be better not use use this. Regards. Bahner

Hi,
Bahner is right,it is made of pewter.Since the 19th century practically all pewter manufactured in the West for food use contains no lead (usually the tin is instead alloyed with copper and antimony, sometimes bismuth), though pewter manufactured in developing nations may still contain lead.

Reserve antique pewter for display only, only eat off of recently manufactured pewter from western nations.

Thank your quick replies Banner and AG2012. I suspected it might be pewter. Any guidance on how to determine the age or where it might have been manufactured?

thanks

"Personalized Giftwares". Appear for sale neither as rare nor in abundance, but scattered over regions. Therefore, might consider chain store operations like "Things Remembered" as possible sources. That said, it would likely be made 1960's or later. Besides the applied brass tag, these ones were also engraved in the object body on order...likely on-site at the retailer location within a specified time for pick-up. The actual maker might be hard to find without a shipper's box or company internal records.
