Hi all,
Knowing these are likely to be Scottish, who would be the maker and approximate age?
The are have one mark only on the inside of one of the arms.
many thanks
Simon
The form reminds me of James Erskine of Aberdeen :: I checked Aberdeen silversmiths and there is a "James McDonald" but I can't find an example of his hallmark for comparison :::
If the tongs are by James McEwan his working dates are given c1762-c1790 here: https://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Mak ... -GJ.html#J
Sugar tongs of that type were made from the 1770s onwards so the style is appropriate for the active years of James McEwan. You can find more information about sugar tongs here: http://www.silversugartongs.com/Collectors/style.htm As you can notice by the style section your tongs fit very well to the Scottish description.
