Anyone got catalogues from Uncle Joe and his Factory Workers (no, that's not the name of a band)? Didn't Mr. Putin think to keep a copy of the KGB's master file of maker marks? From the 1 Ruble 50 Kopek (1P 50k) price (whatever that amounted to), I'm guessing another bit of USSR lost history...any chance to identify the maker and/or pattern name? Hollywood might need this if they ever make a film called Tea Time for Lenin.

I hate to take wild guesses based only on superficial similarities of marks, but I must wonder if this Melchior-based set came (maybe later) from the factory identified here: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=25444&p=61515&hilit=kopek#p61515

Zish - Shevchenko plant - town Volnyansky (Shevchenko machine-building plant).Founded in late 19th century, nationalized in 1920.
Resumed flatware production after WW II under supervision of German staff by August Wellner silversmiths and platers (have no idea how they got there, more likely as POW,rather than business arrangement).Anyway, good to know flatware by Wellner was supplied to Titanic.

Fascinating! A story which actually begins in Aue, Germany with the development of "German Silver" and ends up in the Ukranian Soviet Socialist Republic as a war prize to compensate for the loss of a private firm started by Germans , siezed by Communists, sacked by Nazis, and replaced with the facilities and management of the original Wellner firm. And even though Wellner continued to exist within the DDR (East Germany) and is once again a free firm, these items were also a continuation of the original Wellner history.
