Also, it looks like the characters at the bottom might refer to the maker? Any ideas?

It's nothing special - 山崎謹製 (Yamazaki Reverentially Made).

Yes, it's YAMAZAKI SHOTEN. Currently renamed as "GINZA TANAKA", they still have a flagship shop in Ginza, Tokyo.
