I had quite negative experiences with the Xray test to determine the fineness of silver pieces.
In my city only one laboratory is equipped with this apparatus. The person performing the tests requires to make a small hole in the piece, and claims that this is the only way to obtain a reliable result. Indeed, on a small antique tray, which I asked to test without obviously making any holes, variations of more than 10% were found.
I see that some recommend the electronic test for the determination of the silver fineness.
Is this something different from the xray test?
How it works exactly? Is it reliable ?
I didn't find good information on the Internet.
