Unicorn&Dragon? on crowned knight

Postby dinozaur2001 » Tue Aug 28, 2018 11:19 am

Hello. I buy a little silver milk pourer from a fleamarket in Baia Mare city/Maramures County/Transilvania region .Diana Kopf mark indicated the Austro-hungarien empire(1850-1915). The family crest engraved on him is fabulous. Is a unicorn & dragon(?or a griffin) over two crowned knights and a shield with a castle and a ??hand with a axe or a sword??( the hand with the sword is a common szekler mark. The text engraved under the shield is HASTA FORS MEA. In latin Hastae is the short spear, FORS is ???? and MEA (meum) is mine. All the help is welcome

Set to Latin-English, the universal translator detects Romanian and reads the motto as "My Chance Spear". Unless I am mistaken, your kopf mark has the city code letter "K" for Klangenfurt in Southern Austria, a site (historically) of cross cultures. The lone tower (less than a castle) and the dragon happen to be part of the lore of the city's founding...see the coat of arms as well as the lindewormwell monument. Perhaps this family resided in the city and wanted to relate to the story of the slaying of the dragon (with a lucky spear?)...in the monument, the guy facing the dragon is hiding a weapon and ready to strike. The whole Romanian (family origins?) connection would be conjecture at this point, but there were reasons (war, nationalism) why someone might pack their bags with the silver and get out quick (trying for the hereditary homelands?). And now it's your's to spin this yarn. We'll have to wait to see what the heraldic specialists can pick apart.

I apologize for the delay with the dianakopf pics. I try a better macro , but with my tools i do the best. The leter in front of diana is not K but maybe D or P or B. It's unclear.
