Birmingham Mark

Postby bobp » Fri Sep 29, 2006 8:38 pm

I havea cigarette case that I have been able to research to find that the hallmarks are for Birmingham (Anchor and Lion) and the date code (t) that indicates 1918. Each of the above are enclosed in shields (?) that have the little curly bottom.

However, the Maker's mark is eluding me. It's a rectangle with F.H.A.L

Right after the L there is no period like after the other letters, but, instead a very tiny "D". I'm thinking the L with the little D is an abbreviation for London?

So I guess my Maker's initials are FHA and he was located in London? Is this making sense? Does anyone know who FHA is?

Thanks for any and all help

It's F. H. Adams Ltd of Birmingham.
They were registering marks from 1909 to 1937 in Birmingham. This was the earlier type of mark.
